Eye-catching tram spearheads recruitment campaign

The operator of Edinburgh’s award-winning tram system is launching a major recruitment campaign as it prepares for the launch of services to Newhaven in 2023.

An eye-catching tram ‘wrap’ will help to promote the campaign that’s initially targeting ambitious individuals with a passion for delivering the best possible customer service.

Lea Harrison, Edinburgh Trams Managing Director, explained:

"For many visitors to the city, our Customer Service and Ticketing Assistants are the first people they meet, while thousands of residents rely on us every day to get around.

That’s why the campaign builds on our mission of delivering ‘Excellence for Edinburgh’ while highlighting the long-term career opportunities offered by the expanding network.

Over the coming months we will also need more tram drivers and engineers will also be required, proving even more exciting opportunities to join our growing, dynamic team".

In addition to the tram wraps, the campaign is being supported with extensive advertising in local media, including on commercial radio , and asks potential employees: “How far can you go with Edinburgh Trams?”

More than half of current employees have had internal promotion since they started, thanks to the company’s career progression plans and professional development, and further opportunities will become available as the Trams to Newhaven project nears completion.

Giovanni Scognamiglio, who now works for the company’s HR Department, said:

"Edinburgh Trams has given me the space to grow both as a person and a professional. So much so that I have been recently promoted as Office Assistant after almost four years of working on board the tram.

Undoubtedly, I would not have been able to accomplish such an achievement without the help and support I received both during the recruitment process and my time as a Customer Service & Ticketing Assistant".

All new starters at Edinburgh Trams will benefit from a competitive salary, 33 days annual leave, overtime available with Bank Holiday rates, contributory company pension scheme, life cover, HSF Health Plan, and a ‘Cycle to Work’ scheme.

The recruitment process for the latest Customer and Ticketing Service Assistant roles includes the completion of an online application form, followed by an online competency-based interview, and further details can be found here.
